ok I would agree with spreadhaz in that the second clip is less conclusive but the first clip seems so painfully obvious

have you tried playing with the fov slider in the advanced cartographer menu -- pull it up with the home button. It sounds like your fov is set to something unreasonably low. The default is 72 -- some people like it higher.
